“URBANEYES”

Through her series “URBANEYES”, Vicky Mokbel found the perfect frame to reconcile her two passions, photography and architecture, and especially to reconnect with the latter.

In this project that she presents for the first time as the fruit of four years of work and many journeys around these cities that inspire her, Vicky Mokbel has let her eyesight wander then stop on building structures that captured it.

She scrutinized these windows, facades and walls and all this intricate geometry that is so often enhanced by the shadows and lights effects, giving a colored and ultra-graphical ensemble.

As her own travel architecture columnist, she did not only explore and grasp the ever-changing world; but focused her acute lens on one particular detail that caught her attention, framing her photographs in her long-loved square format that she has been using since her early periods on a medium format Hasselblad 6x6.

Off these urban jigsaws where a lost silhouette wanders sometimes, Vicky Mokbel extracted particular fragments that she isolated for incubating full-fledged art pieces derived from surreal places and environments; a most technical and precise work, that is in line with the procedure of architects when producing a layout.

Her “Urbaneyes” collection certainly corroborates her motto “Tout est question de rapports”, whereas all these pictures create mysterious connections between textures, colors, pattern, shapes, lines and light, all blended to give her own vision of the world and invite us to recreate it in our own way, like she did.
